Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is a National Institute set up jointly by Ministry of Commerce Industry and the Indian Packaging and Allied Industries in the year 1966, with specific objective improving packaging standards in the country. Today, IIP offers a wide range of services to the industry through various activities. The Institute with its Head office at Mumbai has 4 Centers at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The Institute is closely linked with international organizations and is a member of Institute of Packaging Professionals. (IOPP), USA; Institute of Packaging – UK; Technical Association of Pulp & Paper Industry (TAPPI)-USA World Packaging Organization (WPO), The International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) and Asian Packaging Federation (APF).

  Training & Education:
IIP is the first Institute of its kind to offer Packaging as a career option through training courses in Packaging. These include:

  • 3 month Intensive Training Certificate programme (accredited by the Asian Packaging Federation)

  • 2 year Post graduate Diploma in Packaging Technology

  • 18 month Distance Education Programme (by correspondence)

  • Short term training programmes for working executives

  • Conferences and seminars

  Consultancy & Projects:
Provide services for package design and development for cost-effective packaging through on the spot- advisory visits, techno-economic feasibility studies and market research to assess potential for new projects. In keeping with the Institute’s efforts for the promotion of nature based packaging, coir composite board and cushioning media for packaging applications, a joint project with Coir Board of India, is developed for cost-effective packaging.

  Laboratories:
Laboratories at the Head office and the Centers extend package testing facilities to industry for domestic distribution and for exports, as per national and international standards like BIS, ISO, BS, ASTM and others. Our Labs offer services for packaging Material testing, Transport packaging testing, Food packaging testing and services for UN certification of export packages for hazardous goods and equipment calibration standardization. Export packs for fresh fruits and vegetables are developed including bulk and consumer packs.

  Exhibition & Design:
Indiapack, promotes packaging through Exhibitions. It is common platform for various sectors of the packaging and allied industries to showcase the latest developments and trends in packaging within the country and from overseas. Indiapack is also a meeting ground to boost business and expand trade through mutual cooperation.

  Awards:
The biennial Indiastar Award is a recognition of excellence in Packaging development for functional design and appeal. The Indiastar contest is also open to student category. Likewise the PACMACHINE Award symbolizes achievements in the field of Packaging and converting machinery, material handling and testing equipment. Winning Indiastar entries can compete for the Asiastar and the Worldstar Awards.

IIP Membership: Indian Institute of Packaging membership is your link to the world of packaging and is open to all industry. At present IIP has a total membership of 947 including Ordinary, Patron, Life, Association and Individual members. Members are entitled to a free copy of Packaging India, access to the Library and concessional rates for IIP services.

  Finance & Funding:
 Income from services rendered like consultancy, testing, training programmes, exhibitions, publications , membership of the Institute generates funds needed for development and maintenance of infrastructure.
