  History:
The Institute was formed in 1975.

A separate body - the National Packaging Centre considered as the "Technical Arm" of the Institute was set up in 1982 by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board as a joint venture with the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging.

  Nature of Organisation
The Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging is an association of Private and Public Sector Enterprises comprising four categories of members.,

  • Honorary Members

The Institute is managed by a Governing Body consisting of a Council of Management elected by the Corporate and Life Members at the Annual General Meeting, and an Executive Committee of Eighteen Corporate Members elected by the Council of Management to represent various divisions in the Packaging Industry.

  Services:

  • Training:
    The Institute conducts Seminars, Symposia, Workshops, Luncheon Meetings, Evening Lectures and also organises Factory Visits to enable the Members of the Packaging community of Sri Lanka to familiarise themselves with various aspects of Packaging.
     

  • Social:
    The Institute organises quarterly get-togethers and an annual Packaging Ball which gives an opportunity for the members of the Packaging Community to meet regularly.
     

  • Information:
    The Institute publishers "Packaging Lanka", a quarterly, as a joint venture with the National Packaging Centre. Arrangements are being made to publish a monthly News Sheet "Packaging News" as a joint venture with the National Packaging Centre. Books and Periodicals are kept at the National Packaging Centre.
     

  • Promotion:
    The Institute holds a Packaging Exhibition once every two years in Colombo- the capital of Sri Lanka. In conjunction with the Packaging Exhibition the Institute holds "Lanka Star" awards competition for excellence in Packaging.
     

  • Financing:
    The Institute's activities are supported by the income from the Membership subscriptions, donations from well wishers and profits from Seminars, Symposia, Luncheon Meetings, an Annual Packaging Ball and the Packaging Exhibition.
